Boston, MA.

Couple of things to get on your Astro Calendar for the coming weeks and months!

The Boston Red Sox will be hosting the United States Baseball Champion Boston Astros at an upcoming home game at historic Fenway Park in the next several weeks.  The team will be honored by the Red Sox for their Triple Crown National Championship victory at the National Tournament held in late July in Richmond, VA.

The annual Astros banquet will be held in early to mid October at a location to be determined.  Details will be forthcoming, but make sure to be aware of this great annual fete.  We promise to share the specifics with you as soon as they are finalized.

The annual Astros coaches meetings are slated for November 2010.  As always, there will be evaluations of the 2010 season and we will be discussing preparations for the upcoming 2011 Boston Astro Winter Off-Season conditioning and training program.  It is scheduled to commence the 2nd week in January 2011.

All for now, but be sure to check back at www.bostonastros.org for updates and the most current Astro news and notes!

Astros to compete in Triple Crown Labor Day Classic!
by Josh Bordes posted 08/28/2010

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Boston, MA.

On the heels of their recent National Championship run, Robert Lewis, Jr. now leads his 17-year old Astro charges into battle once again at the annual Triple Crown Sports Tournament Labor Day Classic, now in its 9th incarnation.  The team will travel to the beautiful Connecticut Sportsplex in North Branford to challenge some of the nation's best 17 and under youth baseball programs as the Astros seek to continue to stake their claim of being one of the elite youth development and baseball clubs in the country.

Manager Robert Lewis sees this team as a very strong club and is optimistic about the team's chances - providing they execute.  Lewis opines: "This is as talented a group at this age level as we have produced in the past 5 years, and that is saying something.  The Astros teams of the past 5 years were a very talented group and won many national and regional tournaments and titles.  Now it is this group's turn to maintain the Astro level of competition and success."  The top two teams at this year's Labor Day Classic advance on to the national level tournament in October in St. Augustine, FL.  Lewis has an eye toward that as well.  "It is our goal to advance to Florida, but also we also want to advance to show the country the calibre of baseball that is played up in Boston. Wherever we go, not only do we represent the Astro way of doing things, but also the pride of our community back home in Boston."

The team's pitching staff should be quite strong and Lewis believes that with some timely and key clutch hitting and strong defense, the Astros should fare quite well.  "Defensively, we may have to move some folks around, but the talent is there.  That is one of the strengths of the Astro Program: that we have talented kids we can put in many different spots on the field and they are successful.  That is why are coaches are so good.  They have given these kids the tools they need to succeed playing at any position on the field."

Follow the Astros as they start tournament play next Friday September 3.  Check back to www.bostonastros.org for more updates.

Erick Martinez Named Offensive MVP
by Josh Bordes posted 08/14/2010

Richmond, VA
July, 2010

Boston Astros outfielder Erick Martinez was recently named the Offensive MVP of the Triple Crown National Championship won by Robert Lewis, Jr.'s Astros 18-year old team. What makes the achievement even more impressive is that Erick did all that from the number nine position in the batting order.  Astros 14-year old Mentor, Robert Lewis, Jr. had Erick speak to his assembled team on the eve before a big recent playoff elimination game.  Erick said, "Go hard or go home."  Great advice from the former West Roxbury High star.  Congrats Erick on your award.

Moquete Taking it to the Next Level!
by Josh Bordes posted 08/14/2010

Long time Astro Jamill Moquete heads to college this month after a very successful scholastic career at Madison Park Technical Vocational High School in Roxbury, and of course, a great run with the Astros.  Jamill has been an integral part of the Astros and Madison Park Teams for several years and will now ply his trade at college in the Maryland area.
A four-year starter at Madison where he played for Head Coach Mike Viggiano, Jamill was a key cog in two city championship runs and hit .405 with 8 big flies and 29 driven in his senior year.  Jamill also played on Madison Park's City Championship Boys' Basketball Team this winter which advanced to the MIAA Division 1 State Tournament Finals at the TD Banknorth Garden before bowing out to eventual champion Central Catholic.

Astros Legend Makes it to Big Time!
by Josh Bordes

Former Astro star Luis Uribe has found a home in Stillwater, Oklahoma.  The sweet swinging Dominican outfielder who prepped and starred as a school boy at Brighton High, hit .355 in his first year in Division 1.  After playing one year at Endicott College in Beverly and one year at Western Oklahoma State College in Altus, OK, Luis made the trip to the Big 12.  He hit .362 with 6 homers and 40 RBIs while at Endicott and finished his WOSC year batting at a .388 clip with 15 round trippers and 55 driven around.  Luis was also heavily recruited by Lubbock Christian and Oklahoma Baptist.

During his prep days, Luis played at Brighton High School where batted over .400, was named team MVP, All-State and All-City.  Maybe most importantly, Luis is majoring in economics and is looking forward to graduating in 2011.  Congrats to Luis!  He is an excellent example of a Boston Astro True Scholar Athlete!
